Development space, studio, meeting place, social network, online resource, creative hub – The Work Room is your comprehensive portal to the independent dance sector in Scotland, based out of a purpose-built studio in Glasgow’s Tramway.
We’re here to provide independent artists working in dance in Scotland with flexible, fluid, reactive support, as well as helping to strengthen exisiting networks within the creative community.
We believe that artists are important catalysts for social change, able to react and innovate far faster than any organisation could. That’s why The Work Room is governed by an artist-led panel: to enable Scotland’s dance artists to continue reaching and responding to their audiences immediately.
The Work Room was set up in 2008 by Director Laura Eaton-Lewis (for more info see the People page), at the instigation of a number Glasgow-based dance artists. Following a period of research and consultancy, our pioneer programme of residencies launched in January 2009. The Work Room is funded by Creative Scotland and the National Lottery.
